I went to Memorabilia recently which is held twice a year at Birmingham’s N.E.C. In the past I’ve spent loads of cash of comics and other merchandise at the geek fest but I decided to tighten down the reins on the spending. I think it’s becoming quite quaint compared to all the other conventions I’ve been going to in the past year.
Even though I saw some stuff I really wanted to get in fact I saw an action figure at a dealer’s stall. I decided to shop around for a bit but when I came to back to the same stall it was sold out. I was quite disappointed with that one but I’ll buy it from eBay.
I’ve been buying action figures for a long time. The figures I mostly buy are super heroes ones, they end up on my shelf for display. Despite a lack of space, I somehow find a way cram a figure in.
I used to get a lot of Marvel Legends, these were a line of six-inch action figures that were true to their comic roots and the levels of articulation were amazing. Since Hasbro, the company behind Star Wars toys picked up the line back in 2007, they’ve done a few lines and a range of two packs which are very hard to get hold of in this country. Instead the company decided to do three inch figures which aren’t really good at all.
I found out some good news this year, Hasbro are going back to the ML line next year due to public demand and because the three inch line is selling quite well. I’m just hoping they will be available in the shops for an affordable price. When Iron Man 2 came out last year, they manufactured a short series of six inch figures to coincide with the release of the sequel.
They’ve released another wave this year and I picked up Titanium Man from the convention. He’s one of the adversaries of shell head and it’s the second six inch version they’ve done. To all the gamers out there, it looks like a Halo figure but we all know better.
In terms of the paint job, I like the weathered look they’ve given but they could have given the green parts a chrome finish but it looks alright I guess. When I first got the figure out of the packaging, TM had the stance of someone’s who about to ride a horse I managed to sort the problem out by applying heat to the figure. It’s common trick for collectors of action figures.
I’ve separated all the Marvel heroes into one shelf and the villains onto another. Question is how am I going to cram this one in??
