With England now home after their dismal performance in the world cup, most fans are furious over manager Fabio Capello along with the lack of talent. What if England supporters just "Hulked out" at the Germany match?
Well that's what has been happening with recent issues of The Incredible Hulk. For the past two years readers were introduced to the Red Hulk he was created by Editor In Chief Joe Quesada and writer Jeph Loeb initially there was a guessing game going on amongst fans on popular comic forums as to who he was Loeb attracted the ire of long term readers by padding out the storyline and wrote a tale where the scarlet smasher robbed the green goliath of all his abilities, so he was just plain old Bruce Banner to make things worse, he devised an arc where various Marvel characters were all "Hulkified".
A short while ago the identity of Rulk (as he's been come to known in fan circles) was revealed to be General Ross, one of the main supporting characters in the Hulk, whose hated the Hulk from day one apart from that Banner was married to his daughter Elizabeth Ross. Ross teamed up with various foes of the Hulk in a plot to resurrect his deceased daughter and obviously to get one up on his former son in law.
This vast over complicated tale has been spread out into two books: The Incredible Hulk which is written by movie maker Greg Pak and artist Paul Pelletier, and Hulk by Loeb and Ed Mc Guinness. Under Pak's run Hulk was exiled to another planet thanks to his super hero chums he took a cue from Gladiator where the Hulk became "Green Scar" and over threw a cruel alien dictator and got hitched to one of the natives, sadly this bliss wasn't meant to be. The planet exploded and the Hulk sought revenge against his former allies, it was one of the defining moments of the saga of the emerald smasher. Pak also introduced "Skaar" The Hulk's son who's quite unhappy that his dad left on the planet.
It's all coming to a big showdown in August as the Hulk clashes with his former father in law and his estranged son. It also marks Loeb's swansong on the second title as he hands over the reins to Jeff Parker a writer who's written various Marvel titles over the years. According to unconfirmed sources, Parker is rumoured to be the editorial head of the Hulk books he and Pak and an as of yet unannounced writer, will create the next chapter of everyone's favourite no-so jolly green giant.
The Hulk's supposed to be a unique one off character, now it looks like Marvel are trying to do their own twisted version of the Munsters or even the Addams Family only without the comedy. Whatever happened to the days of Hulk Smash puny humans or even the psychological take by fan favourite Peter David? It's a case of far too many Hulks running around.
