It’s been two weeks since I last wrote something and it seems like I’ve swapped blogging for a social life. I’ve been going out with friends and generally having a good time. In fact I went to do a leaving do on Friday for my mate Stuart whose now left this country to settle down in Canada with his partner Alicia.
When it comes to occasions like this, you spend a lot of cash on going out and to be honest with you, I spent quite a lot on comics, films, and going out. I really need to cut down on this. Just recently I bought DC Universe’s brand new Swamp Thing figure which was a convention exclusive at this year’s San Diego Comic Con.
I’ve never been a big fan Mattel’s action figure line they always use the same sculpt and articulation which is can get really repetitive considering what Marvel Legends did with super hero figures. In this case with Swamp Thing they’ve really gone to town with this one. The figure is over seven inches tall, what’s got everyone talking about is everyone’s favourite Muck Encrusted Mockery of a Man has a rubber skin over an internal articulated system. In short, it’s got basic articulation which I’m ok with.
Apart from it’s unique packaging which can also double as a mask, it’s the attention-to-detail sculpting by designers, the Four Horsemen. They really did their homework by reading Swamp Thing back issues by Bernie Wrightson and John Totleben in order to achieve a faithful look. With a figure like this, I think Mattel can make great figures for fans out there. Personally I’d like to see them do a Frank Miller Dark Knight Returns Batman that would be amazing.
I went out in the garden to take some pics of the figure. You can check out more of the big green guy on my flickr page, via my links section. I just like the way how he just blends into the scenery..
